Whoo-hoo! Red Peppers!
The pot’s been hot cooking up these lovelies!
Pepper Jam is the name of the game!
A goodly batch of peppers finally turned red and now the count is up to 26 jars of pepper jam. It’s a wonderful medley of jalapeno, serrano, lipstick, Fresno, sweet banana and our rogue poblenos. Not sure what I will call this year’s batch but I am sure something creative will come to me. I did venture down a path I will never travel again — tomato jam. The recipe said—just boil it down until it is the thickness of jam, about 1 1/2 hours. This person is now on my—well—bad list. Four hours later…FOUR…a rather large pot full of tomatoes and spices was finally rendered down to about 3 inches of sticky sweetness. Delightful in flavor—but only got six jars. NEVER again folks. But, I do have to say the pepper jams are beautiful in color and have just he right amount of kick!
